After Bob’s arrival last week, we’ve also welcomed Craig Wheeler to the team at ACE. Craig will be joining the Brickwork department and also setting up our new Groundworks programme. We managed to catch him in a rare quiet moment (this guy doesn’t stop!) to see how he’s been getting on…….
Tell us about yourself and what you’ll be doing at ACE?
I have 30 years of experience in the construction industry. Starting off as a bricklayer and moving on to supervisor, foreman and project manager, both in the UK and in Denmark. I started in education 10 years ago, as a lecturer. After 3 years I moved on to an OSAT assessor and IV/IQA. Working at ACE I will be tutoring and mentoring trainees and apprentices.
How did your first day go?
First day went very well….it was very helpful to have Barry Crane around (Barry IS The Don). He took time out of his busy schedule to show me the ropes.
What appealed to you about coming to work at ACE?
After working in London for the past 9 years, I was looking for a new challenge. I like the fact that ACE is local and is a progressive training company, focused solely on what is best for the industry. The ethos is to provide a proper solution to training shortages in the construction industry. I’ll be working closely with employers and providing the best and most flexible training options for both employers and learners anywhere in Oxfordshire.
And finally….how do you have your tea?
Don’t drink tea…hate the stuff. Strong black coffee.
