As hundreds of young people prepare to leave school at the end of June, we’ll be boosting Oxfordshire’s construction industry through a new learning partnership that will make Apprenticeship training more accessible to employers and young people hoping to enter the trades.
From 1st August, Oxford Energy Academy will be offering introductory and Apprenticeship training in Heating and Plumbing trades from their specialist training centre in Witney, at the same as we will be adding Bench Joinery and Groundworks to our existing Carpentry and Brickwork courses.
Demand for construction skills is increasing sharply with an estimated 100,000 new homes needed across the county by 2031 and a number of large scale commercial developments such as the Westgate redevelopment in Oxford and the Banbury Gateway. Oxfordshire’s City Deal package from government states the requirement for the creation of over 30,000 new construction jobs and over 500 additional apprenticeships to support skills growth locally.
Our MD Adam Marsh believes the partnership is great news for the local construction industry; “The partnership with the Oxford Energy Academy means better access for smaller firms to high quality, flexible training from specialist providers, and for bigger firms it means we can offer them a package of training and Apprenticeship options across the trades, especially as we are expanding our own provision at ACE.”
And the partnership is already paying dividends with some of our trainees helping to fit out OEA’s new Apprentice training centre, which is an extension of their existing premises on Avenue Two in Witney (check out the photos below). Oxford Energy Academy Director Dave Bendell is delighted to be offering the new courses and says that demand is already high; “We’re well established in the commercial training sector and have had a increasing number of firms asking us to train their apprentices, so we are really excited about our new training centre and partnership with ACE Training.”
Both ourselves and OEA are keen to speak to potential employers and candidates for our courses. We are holding our monthly Open Morning this Saturday, 21st June between 1030 and 1300. OEA will also be holding an Open Day on 15th July between 1400 and 2000. Anyone who is unable to make those dates are urged to get in touch and we’re both happy to make special arrangements for visits.
