Pop up ApprenticeSHOPS across Oxfordshire

Young people can get advice about further education and career choices from the Oxfordshire Apprenticeship service in a series of pop-up ApprenticeSHOPS this summer.

This innovative campaign will see empty shop fronts transformed for 2 days at various shopping centres across the county.

Oxfordshire County Council has made the scheme possible, and we and our construction apprentices will be shop fitting every unit before it opens its doors to the public.

Adam Marsh of ACE Training says:

“These shop fits are a wonderful way for our Pre-Apprentices to get real trade experience prior to starting their Apprenticeships with local Oxfordshire businesses. The ApprenticeSHOPS idea is a really innovative way to get school leavers excited about Apprenticeships.

Experience counts for everything in today’s job market and Apprenticeships give you an NVQ as well as a paid job. Our Apprentices are thriving in construction trades, from small carpentry firms to large brickwork specialists. Many of them didn’t achieve well at GCSE and are proving that you don’t have to succeed at school to excel at work.”

Each ApprenticeSHOP will offer advice and support for young people, showing a range of Apprenticeship opportunities currently available across the county and advising on routes into exciting careers such as helicopter design, catering, fashion design, motorsport engineering, trade skills and many more.

Paddy Patterson, from Oxfordshire County Council’s Economy and Skills team, and a key player in Oxfordshire Apprenticeships, says:

“Record numbers of young people have started an Apprenticeship in Oxfordshire during the past year and are seeing the benefits of earning while they learn.

There is a wider choice of good quality, local Apprenticeships than ever before, so whatever you’re interested in, there should be one to suit you. Pop into one our pop up ApprenticeSHOPS and find out more!”

Employers interested in taking on Apprentices are also invited to come along to visit the shops and find out more about the process.

Shops will be open on the following dates:
Flashop Wantage, 18A Mill Street, Wantage – 8th-9th August
Westgate Shopping Centre, Oxford – 15th – 16th August
Castle Quay Shopping Centre, Banbury – 22nd-23rd August

The Oxfordshire Apprenticeships team hope to announce further venues throughout August, keep an eye on www.oxme.info and Twitter @OxonApprentice for more info as it comes.

We have Apprenticeship and Pre-Apprentice training positions for young people keen to work in the construction industry with immediate starts and are holding an Open Day on Saturday 17th August 10am – 2pm.
