We are helping local jobseekers back into work through a weekly Job Club here at ACE Training. Every Wednesday between 10am and 2pm, jobseekers of all ages are able to get help with job-searching and applications from our partner in this project, Career Connect Provision Ltd, who already runs successful Job Club services in Banbury on behalf of Oxfordshire County Council.
Our Managing Director Adam Marsh explains the origins of the Job Club; “We initially spoke to Career Connect about providing some extra support for our students but we then realised there was an opportunity to benefit the wider community by setting up the Job Club so that local people in Kidlington could also come and make use of our classrooms and IT facilities, and get the professional support they need to get back into work. Certainly we have Apprenticeship vacancies in construction trades available here at ACE, but the Job Club is open to everyone whatever their career interests.”
Career Connect Managing Director Michelle Howie (pictured below with colleague Britta Woods) is excited about the potential here; “We’re delighted to be working with ACE Training to help people recognise their own strengths, qualities and potential. We will be providing essential tools and techniques, such as CV help, interview techniques and career planning that will help people feel positive about their job search moving forward.”
This is the latest initiative from our ‘Community Works’ programme, which includes waste recycling, carpentry training for self-builders and charity building repairs. And since we won the 2014 Cherwell ‘Community and Charity’ of the Year Award, Adam is hopeful that our latest venture can become a permanent arrangement in Kidlington; “We are funding a three month trial ourselves but our hope is that demand will such that we can secure external backing to make this a long-term service”.
We are looking into the possibility of running a minibus shuttle between Kidlington town centre and our training centre during Job Club. If this if of interest or to find out more about the Job Club, contact Michelle on 01865 590696 or email firstname.lastname@example.org, and we hope to see you very soon at ACE.
